Has there ever been a bullet or rocket made with this idea?

I know that swimming and running suits have been formulated.

it helps golf ball manufacturers learn about the air drag on golf balls, allowing them to create better balls, allowing you to hit longer….. that’s how

    You’re right.
Funny, I can’t even remember posting on that vid, or watching it for that matter. Must have been a crappy night hehe

if you listen to the beginning of the video he states that they knew this already but the computer helps visualize and quantify what effect the dimples have. If they can quantify it they can improve how deep, how big , and how many dimples are best on a golf ball to make it go the farthest. When Daimler engineered the first gasoline engine in the late 1800′s he did that without a computer but look what computers have done for combustible engines today…

slightly interesting but how does this help me hit it longer? It doesn’t.

  12. clopezhuici on December 20th, 2009

well they knew all that without the need of a computer to explain it a hundred years ago when they designed it…

Obviously somebody has to care, or nobody would be able to develop a ball that goes far.

  18. somethingwithletters on December 20th, 2009

Now if they can only do something to make them go straight every time!!!!!

  21. fulcrumdemon on December 20th, 2009

it depends on the air’s effect at an infinitesimal time interval, The air is sheared off no matter which direction its spun. i dunno for sure but thats my guess

  22. madcat527 on December 20th, 2009

  24. jerrykwan on December 20th, 2009

but how will the effect be when the golf ball is spinning? i suppose this illustration assumes the golf ball is hit without spin?
